Port of Entry

Definition

An officially designated location — such as a bridge, checkpoint, or airport — where travelers are authorized to enter the United States and where immigration officers process arrivals.

Examples

  • Asylum seekers in this case allegedly attempted to present themselves at ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border, such as San Ysidro in California, but were turned away before they could file their asylum claims.
